It was not the winning but the taking part that attracted Barbara Merridue, from Littlehampton, to the Chestnut Tree House Lottery.
“I just wanted to give a bit of money each month to the hospice,” said Barbara, a retired carer. “And my husband, Malcolm, fully agreed.
“We thought we would rather support something nearby, which is in a good cause, than do the National Lottery.”
They haven’t decided what to do with their cheque for £100. “We’ve had a good life, so it’s more important to do something for the children or the grandchildren at this stage, so we will probably spend it on them,” said Malcolm, a retired butcher.
Chestnut Tree House uses the money raised by Lottery players to provide the best care to local children and families. It costs just £1 a week to play and our Lottery pays for one in every four days of hospice care.
