When Jo was told she had won the £1,000 first prize from the Chestnut Tree House Lottery her first impulse was to give the money back.
Jo, from East Preston, said: “I’ve only been playing the Lottery for a year. There was someone outside the Co-op in Angmering who was signing people up, and I was one of them.
“But I’ve known about Chestnut Tree House for a very long time. And I’ve always been impressed by all the good work they do for children. They make a difference to people’s lives. I know a family whose daughter had a chronic medical condition, and how she was helped by Chestnut Tree House.
“And I know people who work there, and how they’ve been able to benefit so many people. We are having a family holiday in Greece this year, my husband, my daughter and two sons. So I might put a bit of the money towards that. But I really want to donate most of it back to where it came from, because that’s where it deserves to go.”
The money raised by our Lottery players means that Chestnut Tree House can provide life changing hospice care to local children and families, week after week. It costs just £1 a week to play and our Lottery pays for one in every four days’ of hospice care services, so our Lottery players do make a huge difference.
